Mathematical framework for recursive model-based system design

Abstract: In this paper, we introduce a mathematical framework that allows the designer to consider more of the proposed ideas and options in conceptual design phase into the design process. The proposed model allows for dynamical relationship between the system's high-level requirements and the detailed design parameters, where an optimization engine can optimize over the design parameters and variables for a given range in the requirement. This is done by proposing an input/output block structure named recursive desig… Show more

“…However, no other contribution at such scale has been completed since and these works have largely been ignored within the SE community. As an example, although Wymore's research is credited with coining the term MBSE [24,25], his research is often discussed as being "difficult to translate" [26] and "hard to follow such that only mathematicians are able to read it" [27]. This lack of palatability would likely not come as a surprise to theoreticians such as Wymore.…”

“…With Wymore being "often credited with introducing a mathematical foundation for MBSE" [23], it should be assumed that the literature would provide significant usage, enhancement, and reference to his research. However, as one author states, Wymore's framework is "difficult to translate" [28] and "hard to follow such that only mathematicians are able to read it" [19]. While certainly dense in mathematical equations, theory, and proofs, this should not preclude exploration of T3SD from the SE community for usage as a foundation for modern MBSE and its necessary evolution.…”
