Mean stress and ratcheting corrections in fatigue life prediction of metals

Abstract: Ratcheting occurs easily because of the presence of mean stress during the stress‐control fatigue of engineering components. For ductility exhaustion dominated fatigue failure, a new fatigue life prediction model is developed by introducing the mean ratcheting strain rate to incorporate the effects of ratcheting and mean stress on fatigue life. The prediction accuracy of the proposed model was compared with that of the generalised damage parameter, Xia–Kujawski–Ellyin, Walker and Goswami models. Specifically, … Show more

“…[11][12][13][14][15][16] Reliability is usually measured by normal working probability or mean time between failures. [17][18][19][20][21][22] The constellation reliability in the satellite area mainly refers to the inherent reliability, which is the ability of the satellites to work normally.…”

“…2 However, in the current integrity assessment methods based on the macro-fracture mechanics, standard specimen for the fracture toughness testing has severely size requirement to make sure a high constraint state. [3][4][5][6][7][8] For the flawed structure involves a low constraint state, the transfer of fracture toughness data from standard specimen to actual cracked components will produce a conservative result. Conversely, for some special cases with higher constraint states than standard specimen, the transfer will result in a non-conservative (unsafe) result.…”
