Medium term results in keratoprostheses with biocompatible and biological haptic

Abstract: Fixation of the KPro by a root of the patient s own tooth (OOKP) leads to the best results in the long-term follow up, as our results as well as the literature demonstrate. As long as a KPro is in place, the visual acuity is as good as the retinal function. For the ranking of different types of KPro, the percentage and the duration of the anatomic success are most important. The comparability of the various KPro results may be limited, since the patients were not randomised and the four groups differ in number. Show more

“…Our lower results might be attributed to the fact that 37% of our patients live outside Spain, including the Middle-East (26%), which makes frequent patient visits and regular control difficult. For OKP, our results of 80% anatomical survival at 1.5 years were similar to the 75% reported by Hille [5] (four cases).…”

“…Falcinelli [3] reported 85% anatomical survival at 18 years post-op (181 cases) for OOKP and Hille [5] 100% survival at 8 years post-op (25 cases). Our results for OOKP were 68% at 8 years and 59% at 18 years post-op.…”

“…6 Drainage devices therefore form the mainstay of glaucoma management in these eyes. 1,7 However, details regarding the technique of shunt procedures using these devices at various stages of the MOOKP surgery have not been described earlier in literature. In this paper we have described the technique and timing as well as analyzed the outcomes of the Ahmed glaucoma drainage device for glaucoma in eyes undergoing the MOOKP procedure.…”
