Melihat Islam vs Barat dalam film Indonesia: Sebuah kajian poskolonial

Abstract

<p>Tulisan ini dilatarbelakangi oleh <em>booming</em> film-film religi Islami di akhir tahun 2000an yang disebut oleh produser dan didukung banyak figur penting di Indonesia membawa misi untuk memperbaiki citra Islam yang memburuk pasca tragedi 9/11. Di mata dunia barat, Islam identik dengan terorisme, juga sikap dan perilaku intoleransi lewat kekerasan. Untuk itu, film-film Islam yang diproduksi dan berhasil menjadi <em>box office</em> menjadi sarana melawan stigma tersebut, dengan memberikan wajah Islam yang berbeda dengan narasi global yang didominasi oleh Barat. Dengan melakukan analisis pada empat film Indonesia yang mengklaim membawa misi tersebut, yaitu <em>99 Cahaya Di Langit Eropa 1&2</em> dan <em>Bulan Terbelah di Langit Amerika 1&2</em>, tulisan ini bertujuan untuk mengungkap bagaimana strategi keempat film tersebut dalam melakukan <em>counter</em> atas narasi barat tentang Islam. Lewat pendekatan poskolonial, penulis menemukan bahwa film-film yang menjadi objek analisis, dalam menjalankan misinya justru terjebak dalam oposisi biner antara Islam dan Barat. Jika Barat selama ini mendominasi narasi tentang Islam, maka keempat film berupaya membalik oposisi biner tersebut. Namun, alih-alih memberikan narasi alternatif, keempat film tersebut justru melanggengkan dominasi dan superioritas Barat.</p>

Lawrence Kincaid in the book (Sokowati, 2020), the definition of communication is the process in which two or more individuals shape or exchange information with each other, ultimately leading to a profound mutual understanding. One of the essential aspects of communication is to convey information about both personal and organizational matters to external parties so that they are aware and can comprehend, thereby fostering mutual understanding of culture and religion for the purpose of tolerance.…”

“…The strategy of the MUI in Bali regarding cultural differences is to align with the cultural practices of the majority religion while also informing that there are certain points that cannot be followed either culturally or religiously. The term culture refers to a set of knowledge, stories, language, rules, rituals, customs, lifestyles, attitudes, beliefs, or traditions that connect individuals to a group of others at a given time (Sokowati, 2020). For example, during the Hindu holiday of Nyepi, the MUI in Bali states that Muslims should observe Nyepi as a form of tolerance and respect for the cultural traditions of the Hindu majority religion in Bali.…”
