Membrane tension-mediated stiff and soft tumor subtypes closely associated with prognosis for prostate cancer patients

Abstract: Background Prostate cancer (PCa) is usually considered as cold tumor. Malignancy is associated with cell mechanic changes that contribute to extensive cell deformation required for metastatic dissemination. Thus, we established stiff and soft tumor subtypes for PCa patients from perspective of membrane tension. Methods Nonnegative matrix factorization algorithm was used to identify molecular subtypes. We completed analyses using software R 3.6.3 an… Show more

“…Cancer cells exhibit enhanced proliferation and migration (140), This is partly due to their softer plasma membrane and disrupted actin dynamics that allow rapid and extensive morphological changes (141)(142)(143)(144)(145)(146)(147)(148)(149)(150)(151)(152). In a multicellular setting, higher cortical contractility in epithelial cells reinforces cell-cell adhesions and contribute to preservation of tissue integrity.…”

“…Breast cancer is the most common form of malignancy affecting Iraqi women, accounting for one-third of all cancers [ 21 , 22 ]. HER-2-positive breast cancers account for more than twenty percent of cases and have a high rate of disease recurrence and mortality [ 23 ].…”

“…Increased signaling via IGF-1R has been involved in a reduced response to trastuzumab in breast cancer cells in vitro [ 20 ]. In recurrent breast cancer, IGF-1R has been shown to heterodimerize with HER-2 [ 21 , 22 ]. Elevated levels of IGF-1 are associated with an increased risk of both the development and recurrence of breast cancer, primarily due to its roles in myogenesis and anti-apoptotic activities.…”

“…PCa, a cancer associated with ageing that primarily affects males over 65, will unavoidably get a lot of attention as the world’s population ages [ 17 , 57 59 ]. Cellular senescence, a key aspect of organismal ageing, is a crucial part of the ageing process.…”
