Metal salts of carboxylic multiwalled carbon nanotubes – preparation, structure and thermal properties

Abstract: Salts of carboxylated multiwalled carbon nanotubes with monovalent Ag(I), Li, Na, NH4, divalent Ba, Co(II), Cu(II), Pd(II), UO2, Zn, trivalent Ce(III), Cr(III), In(III), Ru(III), Sm(III), tetravalent Pt(IV), Th(IV) and pentavalent Nb(V) cations were prepared and elucidation of their structure was attempted based on their thermal and the QMS analyses. The salts usually decomposed specifically up to 400 °C. Above that temperature decomposition of the nanotubes matter can proceed with either oxidizing or catalyzi… Show more

“…The resulting suspension was dispersed by 600 s sonication and repeated heating 120–300 s in the microwave oven. The product was filtered through a Buchner funnel, washed with 25% ammonium hydroxide then with demineralized water to pH 7 of the filtrate and dried in a desiccator over CaCl 2 and NaOH at 130–140 °C (Sample 3) and (iii) Sample 1 was oxidized with HClO 4 following Michalski et al, 29 (Sample 4).…”

“…The immobilization of transition metal salts was carried out according to a previously described method [ 20 ]. The MWCNT-COOH reacted with an ammonia solution and, after filtration and drying, reacted with chloride solutions of the appropriate metals using ultrasound.…”
