La estación meteorológica del Nevado de Toluca (4283 masl, 19 ºN) ha registrado datos climáticos por más de medio siglo, y su combinación de altura y extenso periodo de registro proporciona una excelente oportunidad para estudiar tendencias climáticas en un ambiente tropical de alta montaña. Se analizó la variabilidad climática en el volcán Nevado de Toluca durante el periodo 1965-2015. Se calcularon nueve índices climáticos estándar para temperatura y siete para precipitación a partir de datos diarios de la estación. Los resultados, que poseen un alto nivel de significancia estadística, muestran un incremento en el número de días con heladas nocturnas y periodos fríos; de manera similar, muestran un incremento en la variación térmica diurna. La precipitación total acumulada exhibe una tendencia ascendente a lo largo del tiempo, aunque los periodos con precipitación son cada vez más aislados. Esto sugiere también que se incrementará el aislamiento de la nieve estacional en la cima del volcán, pero la capa de nieve durará más tiempo. El objetivo de este trabajo es servir como referencia para otros estudios ambientales de alta montaña en los que la temperatura del aire y la precipitación son aspectos cruciales.

Spatial and temporal variability of meteorological variables across urban areas due to differences in land surface characteristics is a common phenomenon. Most pronounced is the effect of land use on air temperature. In this study, parametric and non-parametric statistical approaches (stepwise multiple linear regression and random forests) were applied in order to model sub-daily as well as daily spatial patterns of the urban heat island intensity in the major city of Augsburg, Southern Germany, and its rural surroundings. A large number of model setups utilizing variables from different land surface data sets as predictors and taking into account different seasonal, daily and meteorological situations was examined. The results were compared concerning different measures of model performance (mean squared skill score, mean squared error, explained variance). For individual setups and situations considerable skill of up to 85% explained variance was reached. The best performing models were obtained from multiple linear regression for anticyclonic situations with low or negative net radiation. Selected models were utilized to derive continuous spatial distributions of the air temperature deviations from a rural reference station. The resulting maps can be useful for various applications, e.g. in the context of urban planning. rESUMENEl Bosque de Chapultepec es el área verde urbana (AVU) de mayor extensión y con más visitantes de la Ciudad de México, razón por la cual su protección y conservación tiene gran relevancia por los servicios ambientales y beneficios antropocéntricos que genera. No obstante su trascendencia, hasta la fecha no se ha estudiado la estructura horizontal ni se han generado indicadores de su masa arbolada. Esta situación es extensiva al resto de las AVU de la ciudad y del país y solo se han realizado ocasionalmente estudios florísticos o diagnósticos físico-sanitarios. Se determinaron las características dendrométricas y dasométricas del arbolado en la 2ª sección, con base en información registrada durante el inventario total de sus árboles, complementada con la obtenida en 111 sitios de muestreo de 500 m 2 . Se determinó una densidad promedio de árboles de 295/ha; un valor promedio de cobertura de copa por árbol de 27,19 m 2 y la cubierta del dosel excede 80% de la superficie; mientras que el valor promedio de área basal por árbol fue de 0,10 m 2 y los fustes ocupan 0,32% de dicha superficie. Los datos de este trabajo servirán como un indicador básico para la 2ª sección y una referencia para futuros trabajos de investigación y caracterización de masas arboladas urbanas, lo cual es fundamental para sustentar el manejo que requiere el bosque urbano de la Ciudad de México. ABSTrACTChapultepec Forest is the largest and most visited urban green area (UGA) of Mexico City and for these reasons, the protection and conservation of this place is a relevant issue to maintain the generation of the environmental services and benefits that it provides. Despite the importance of this area, there is a lack of information about the horizontal structure and indicators of the tree stands located in this place, as well as for the rest of the UGA of the city and the country, although some floristic or sanitary conditions studies had been done in some of them. The aim of this paper was to determine the dendrological and dasometric characteristics of the stands at the 2nd section of Chapultepec Forest, according with the information obtained from a total tree inventory, complemented with 111 sampling sites of 500 m 2 . The estimated mean of trees per site was 295/ha, the mean crown cover value was 27,19 m 2 and the canopy cover in the area exceeds 80% of the total surface. The mean basal area was 0,10 m 2 and the stems occupied 0,32% of the total surface. This data will provide basic indicators for the 2nd section tree stands and a reference for future research projects and characterization of UGA in the city. In addition, the information is basic to sustain the management that requires the urban forest of Mexico City.
