Microstructure and Mechanical Properties of Vacuum Diffusion Bonded Ti2AlNb/Ti/TC4 Joint

Abstract: In this paper, the Ti2AlNb alloy was bonded to TC4 alloy using the vacuum diffusion bonding method with a Ti interlayer. The interfacial microstructure of the Ti2AlNb/Ti/TC4 joint was characterized. The relationship between the bonding parameters and the microstructure and mechanical property of the joints was explored. Results indicated that the interdiffusion of Nb and Al elements between the interlayer and substrates promoted the formation of the lamellar α + β dual-phase structure in the joint. The bonding… Show more

“…By comparing the fractures on the Ti 2 AlNb side of the joint at 650 °C and 750 °C, it is found that the closer to the Ti 2 AlNb side, the more obvious the joint shows a ductile feature, as shown in Figure 9 b and Figure 10 b. The fracture morphology exhibits both cleavage and ductile characteristics, which is one of the typical characteristics of the interface between titanium alloy and Ti 2 AlNb alloy [ 41 ], and one of the main features in the fracture morphology of the Ti 2 AlNb tensile properties [ 42 ].…”

“…The research on fatigue properties of vacuum-brazed titanium alloys is relatively limited. In addition, the focus of research on vacuum-brazed titanium alloys is usually on heterogeneous welding, new brazing material properties [9], or the element effects on microstructures [10]. There is very little research on the fatigue crack growth characteristics and life prediction of TC4 after vacuum brazing.…”

“…In recent years, there have been several attempts to fabricate Ti 2 AlNb/Ti-6Al-4V bimetallic joints using various techniques. Vacuum diffusion bonding using a Ti interlayer allowed for the achievement of sufficient joint strength [ 17 ]; however, this method imposes considerable limitations in terms of component geometrical complexity. The laser metal deposition AM process using TA15 and Ti 2 AlNb alloy powders was used to prepare bimetallic samples [ 18 ].…”
