This chapter describes what a causal machine is as well as the types of causal machines. Machines that are framed as causal machines which are considered in this chapter are the multi-layer perceptron (MLP), radial basis function (RBF) and fuzzy inference system. These are framed as causal machines by ensuring that the cause happens before the effect, that the cause and the effect are connected and that there is a flow of information from the cause to the effect. The MLP was successfully used to identify the causal relationship between the militarized interstate dispute (MID) variables (causes) and conflict status (effect) whereas the RBF was used to identify the causal relationship between the dissolved gas analysis data (causes) and condition of bushings (effect) while fuzzy inference system was used to identify the causal relationship between causes (input fuel, air, reference level, and disturbance) and effect (steam flow rate).
