MIStore: a Blockchain-Based Medical Insurance Storage System

Abstract: Currently, blockchain technology, which is decentralized and may provide tamper-resistance to recorded data, is experiencing exponential growth in industry and research. In this paper, we propose the MIStore, a blockchain-based medical insurance storage system. Due to blockchain’s the property of tamper-resistance, MIStore may provide a high-credibility to users. In a basic instance of the system, there are a hospital, patient, insurance company and n servers. Specifically, the hospital performs a (t, n)-thres… Show more

“…Azaria et al use the blockchain technology in the medical record system, but in their work, the security of the database is not guaranteed. Authentication and key‐management are the second type of problem, which exist in the EMRs system. Many authors, Li et al and Zhou et al adopt a cryptographic mechanism to provide secure and reliable sharing of patient's data. The patients, in EMRs system, are increasing day‐by‐day.…”

“…We mapped eight studies that provided literature on the potential usage of blockchain projects to support the health insurance industry (see Table 8). Only [85] and [51] provided actual blockchain-based application to support insurance claim storage. In [85], the authors proposed MIStore.…”

“…A multitude of research work has been recently carried out in the healthcare space in general, involving blockchains as a medium for accountable record-keeping. Within the health insurance industry, MIStore proposes a blockchain-based medical insurance system, deployed on the Ethereum blockchain platform [29]. It uses the immutability of blockchain storage to maintain insurance records.…”
