Mobile Augmented Reality: User Interfaces, Frameworks, and Intelligence

Abstract: Mobile Augmented Reality (MAR) integrates computer-generated virtual objects with physical environments for mobile devices. MAR systems enable users to interact with MAR devices, such as smartphones and head-worn wearables, and perform seamless transitions from the physical world to a mixed world with digital entities. These MAR systems support user experiences using MAR devices to provide universal access to digital content. Over the past 20 years, several MAR systems have been developed, however, the studies… Show more

“…The field of AR has experienced a constant evolution in recent years and several surveys of AR [5,20,21] and MAR [22,23] detail the advances in the field. The goal of our project is to disseminate the historical heritage of the city of San Cristóbal de la Laguna in the XVI century using a 3D model of the city in a Location-Based MAR application (LB-MAR) [22].…”

“…AR is a technology that substantially enhances the UX by superimposing audio or visual content [45]- [47]. In another word, AR enables mobile devices to create engaging user experiences by layering digital contents on physical environments [48], [49]. This way, AR application may captivate the user's attention through its immersive environment.…”
