Model-driven cloud resource management with OCCIware

Abstract: Cloud computing has emerged as the main paradigm for hosting and delivering computing resources as services over Internet. It provides a delivery model for computing resources at infrastructure, platform, and software levels. However, there is a plethora of cloud providers offering different resource management interfaces. Due to this diversity, the consumption, provisioning, management, and supervision of cloud resources are subjected to four key issues, i.e., heterogeneity, interoperability, integration, and… Show more

“…OCCI is an open standard for the efficient management and access of cloud resources by the RESTful API and defines cloud resources through a generic extensible model. The model driven OCCIware approach [68] is composed of OCCIware Studio and OCCIware runtime. The OCCIware approach has to clearly specify the core model that can specify any cloud resources such as IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS and generates a cloud domain model for each domain and maps each domain to a designer.…”

“…The article (Faiez Zalila et al), entitled "Model-Driven Cloud Resource Management with OCCIware" [2], proposes an OCCIware approach to design, validate, generate, implement, deploy, execute, and supervise everything as a service with Open Cloud Computing Interface (OCCI), where the static semantics for the OCCI standard are defined and different cloud service models are verified.…”

“…We invited research works that provide new solutions, novel methods, or newfound knowledge and results for addressing the above challenges. After a rigorous review process, we accepted 10 submissions, distributed mainly in following groups: i) cloud resource management [1,2,3], ii) heterogeneous data management [4,5], iii) container framework and system [6,7], iv) service and business process techniques [8,9], and v) cloud solution [10].…”

“…In comparison, our work did not aim to generate new API objects from models, but rather to provide a modeling tool that can be used in order to streamline, test and orchestrate web APIs' execution in business processes. In [18] authors describe a tool for managing cloud service ecosystems using the Open Cloud Computing Interface, strengthened by model-driven engineering. In our case, we focused on API ecosystem management that includes services mostly used for retrieving or sending data, while cloud services are mostly used for acquiring superior computing power or storage space.…”
