Modeling of Thin Strip Profile during Cold Rolling on Roll Crossing and Shifting Mill

Abstract: Strip profile control in cold rolling of thin strip is a difficult and challenge problem found in industry. Currently using the novel type of strip rolling mill, such as the work roll crossing and shifting is the one of the main methods to control the strip profile quality in cold rolling. In this paper, 3-D finite element simulation models of the thin strip profile in cold rolling for the work roll crossing and shifting system were successfully developed. The strip profile and edge drop are discussed consider… Show more

“…Several researchers have proposed analytical models to calculate the rolling force of crossed-pair hot rolling mills [13,14]. Other researchers have investigated strip profiles in asymmetrical cold rolling, investigating the influence of work roll crossing and roll shifting on the rolling force using both numerical and experimental methods [15][16][17][18]. Also, in the rolling process, finite element methods have been widely used to simulate and investigate the process.…”

“…2D FE and 3D FE simulations have been used extensively to simulate the rolling process of thin strip, but as computation capacity has developed, 3D FE simulation is preferred because 2D FE simulation has a limited ability to study transverse thickness and distributions of stress. The profile of thin strip during cold rolling in a roll crossing and shifting mill (WCS) was modelled and analysed in [12]. Zhang et al [13] developed a 3D FEM model of UCM mill (a 6-high mill with intermediate rolls shifting and work roll bending) to study how intermediate roll shifting affects the strip profile and distribution of the rolling force.…”

“…Researchers have studied how the rolling parameters affect the shape and profile of rolled strip [7][8][9] . The ability of a work roll crossing and shifting mill to control the crown and its subsequent effect on rolling mechanics are also discussed [10][11][12][13] .…”
