Soft crawling robots have attracted great attention due to their anticipated effective interactions with humans and uncertain environments, as well as their potential capabilities of completing a variety of tasks encompassing search and rescue, infrastructure inspection, surveillance, drug delivery, and human assistance. Herein, a comprehensive survey on recent advances of soft crawling robots categorized by their major actuation mechanisms is provided, including pneumatic/hydraulic pressure, chemical reaction, and soft active material‐based actuations, which include dielectric elastomers, shape memory alloys, magnetoactive elastomers, liquid crystalline elastomers, piezoelectric materials, ionic polymer–metal composites, and twisted and coiled polymers. For each type of actuation, the prevalent modes of locomotion adopted in representative robots, the design, working principle and performance of their soft actuators, and the performance of each locomotion approach, as well as the advantages and drawbacks of each design are discussed. This review summarizes the state‐of‐the‐art progresses and the critical knowledge in designing soft crawling robots and offers a guidance and insightful outlook for the future development of soft robots.

В работе представлен обзор роботов различного масштаба и назначения. В ходе обзора анализируются применяемые аппаратные и программные решения и обобщаются наиболее распространенные структурные схемы систем управления. По результатам обзора проводится анализ подходов к масштабированию систем управления, применению алгоритмов интеллектуального управления, обеспечению отказоустойчивости, снижению массогабаритных размеров элементов систем управления, свойственных для разных классов роботов. Целью работы является поиск общих подходов, применяемых в различных областях робототехники для построения на их основе единой методологии проектирования масштабируемых интеллектуальных систем управления робототехническими комплексами с заданным уровнем отказоустойчивости на унифицированной элементной базе. Данная часть обзора посвящена промышленной робототехнике. По результатам проведенного обзора и анализа сделаны следующие выводы: масштабирование в промышленной робототехнике достигается за счет использования модульного принципа построения систем управления и типорядов основных компонентов; групповое взаимодействие нескольких промышленных роботов организуется за счет централизованного глобального планирования или использования заранее созданных и промоделированных управляющих программ, исключающих возможные коллизии при работе нескольких роботов в одной рабочей зоне; интеллектуальные технологии в промышленной робототехнике находят применение в первую очередь на стратегическом уровне системы управления, который, как правило, исполняется вне режима реального времени, а в отдельных случаях вынесен из блока управления роботом в виде удаленного облачного сервиса; с точки зрения обеспечения отказоустойчивости, разработчики в первую очередь сфокусированы на заблаговременном предсказании неисправностей и плановом выводе робота из эксплуатации, а не на сохранении его работоспособности в случае каких-либо сбоев; промышленная робототехника не предъявляет серьезных требований к массогабаритным размерам устройств управления.Ключевые слова: робототехника, промышленные роботы, системы управления, мобильные роботы, манипуляторы.

Natural Growth‐Inspired Distributed Self‐Reconfiguration of UBot Robots

The decentralized self-reconfiguration of modular robots has been a challenging problem. This work proposed a biological method inspired by the plant growth for the distributed self-reconfiguration of UBot systems. L-systems are implemented to construct target topology, and turtle interpretation is extended to lead the self-reconfiguration process. Parametric reproduction rules introduce the external influence to the reconfiguration process by distributed modules’ local sensing. Each module can move independently to change relative positions, and robotic structures develop in the natural growth style. This leads to a convergent and environmentally sensitive control method for the distributed self-reconfiguration. Reconfiguration processes can converge to desired configuration and are scalable to module numbers by reproducing predefined substructures in principle. The overall performance of the proposed strategy is evaluated with simulations and 11 experiments. Simulation and experimental results turn out to be convergent and environmentally sensitive.
