The desire for sport products with enhanced performance and efficiency has been known for many years and nanotechnology has opened new routes for the production of functional sportswear. The objective of this paper is presenting an overview on applications of nanotechnology in different sport sections with the main emphasis on sport flooring, clothing and shoes. Some of the important features imparted into sport apparels by nanotechnology are also thoroughly discussed. Following the current trend sportswear of all types will experience the nanotechnology revolution, in the near future.

The measurement of moisture in textile materials worn on or near the skin can be performed for a variety of reasons, for example, to analyze the amount of perspiration in clothing, wound fluid in bandages or even urine in diapers or bed sheets. Conventional moisture measurement methods, such as electrical resistance or capacitance measurement, can be susceptible to cross sensitivities to electrical fields or ionic impurities, often occurring in measurements close to the human body. The very reliable gravimetric methods are too bulky and difficult to be integrated in portable and online measurements. In this paper, the authors present a “transient heat moisture sensor” (THMS) which is small and comparatively easy to integrate into textiles. The authors describe the measurement principle and present a sensor element manufactured with thin film technologies. The analytical description of the sensor fits to both, experimental data and the result of first numerical analysis (COMSOL Multiphysics). The authors demonstrate how to limit the sensors spatial sensitivity to a thin layer of textile without being influenced by the adjacent environment by proper timing of the signal readout.

Kemampuan moisture management dan soil release merupakan dua faktor penting yang dapat mempengaruhi tingkat kenyamanan dan kemudahan perawatan pada pakaian. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk memperbaiki sifat moisture management dan soil release pada kain poliester sehingga lebih nyaman saat dipakai dan mudah melepaskan kotoran saat dicuci. Metode penelitian ini adalah dengan melakukan proses penyempurnaan pada kain tenun poliester menggunakan senyawa kopolimer hidrofilik, meliputi tahapan perendaman (dipping), pemerasan (padding), pengeringan (drying), dan pemanasawetan (curing). Untuk memperoleh kondisi proses terbaik, dilakukan percobaan dengan memvariasikan beberapa parameter, yaitu konsentrasi senyawa kopolimer hidrofilik (10 g/L; 20 g/L; 30 g/L; 40 g/L), suhu pemanasawetan (150 °C; 160 °C; 170 °C) dan waktu pemanasawetan (0,5 menit; 1 menit; dan 1,5 menit). Evaluasi dilakukan melalui pengujian menggunakan alat moisture management tester (MMT) dan uji soil release. Hasil uji menunjukan bahwa terjadi peningkatan sifat moisture management dan soil release pada kain poliester setelah diberi perlakuan dengan senyawa kopolimer hidrofilik. Kondisi proses optimum diperoleh pada konsentrasi 30 g/L, suhu pemanasawetan160 °C, dan waktu pemanasawetan 1 menit.
