“…Meanwhile, all human isolates included bla TEM , int 1 and int 3 genes (100%). These results agreed with those obtained by Abdel Aziz et al [ 42 ], who detected bla TEM and int 1 in all the tested Salmonella serovars recovered from broilers and humans. Additonally, the obtained results supported the fact that TEM-1 is the most popular plasmid mediated β-Lactamase in resistant Gram-negative bacteria [ 43 ].…”

“…Integrons are genetic elements that can recognize and capture movable gene cassettes carrying the AMR genes leading to MDR dissemination and limiting the chemotherapeutic options available for infectious diseases [ 42 ]. Regarding integrons genes, our results supported that int 1 (class 1 integrons) was the most frequent in Salmonellae [ 46 ].…”

“…Besides the datasets from the publications included in this review and meta-analysis, other relevant information was available in new articles that were published in the years 2017 and 2018 while the manuscript was under preparation by the authors. During this period, 6 full articles and three published abstracts representing 11 datasets were retrieved using the search engines (6775). The majority of these studies were reported from Africa (67, 68, 7074) except for two studies from Europe (69) and South America (75).…”

The majority of these studies were reported from Africa (67, 68, 7074) except for two studies from Europe (69) and South America (75). Among the total of 5,868 cattle examined, 9.2% (554/6018), which is nearly equal to the pooled prevalence estimate, were reported to be positive for Salmonella species with different serotypes.…”

“…The inconsistency between some resistance genes and resistance phenotypes observed in this study indicates that the resistance was not borne by the genes tested. These may have been encoded by mobile genetic elements such as integrase/gene cassette, transposons and plasmids, or other resistance genes as earlier suggested by Gharieb et al (2015), Partridge et al (2018), Abdel Aziz et al (2018), Zhang et al 2018; McMillan et al 2019; Chen et al 2020) and these deserve further investigation. Antimicrobial resistance originated from antibiotics use in livestock production, disease prevention and growth‐promoting feed additives, as well as from indiscriminate use, ultimately leading to deposits of drug residues in the animal’s tissues and the environment (Sattar et al 2014).…”
