Morphological and genetic characterization of vine grape cultivars of Herzegovina

Abstract: In Herzegovina, different genotypes of grapevine are called the same, and the origin of these cultivars is mainly unexplored. Two groups of autochthonous cultivars are grown. The first group consists of more widespread Žilavka and Blatina, and accompanying Bena, Krkošija, Dobrogostina and Trnjak, and the second one of less common cultivars that should be preserved from extinction. Considering the small number of studies on the comparison of different methods used for analyses of similarities and relatedness of… Show more

“…These characters also played a major role in the construction of a dendrogram to evaluate the phylogenetic relationships of genotypes. Similar findings were observed by Knezovic et al (2017) who selected 16 characteristics from OIV descriptor to identify ten grapes genotypes. Likewise, Atak et al, (2014) determined 55 morphological traits to check variability in nine grapes cultivars.…”

“…Exception is made to the case of synonymy between the three accessions 'Gnoubi', 'Gbaii', and 'Arasani', which was confirmed by both, ampelographic and molecular clustering. This dis crepancy between the two clustering types was also reported in other studies in grapevine collections (Knezović et al, 2017) and other fruit crops (Talebi et al, 2008;Zdunic et al, 2008).…”

“…The number of shoot descriptors (n = 4) in our study was not enough to separate grapevine cultivars. The number of leaf descriptors used in this work (n = 25) was higher than those reported previously by Sabir et al [53], who used 12 descriptors, Khalil et al [52], who used 9 descriptors, Dilli et al [54], who used 22 descriptors, and Knezović et al [55], who used 7 descriptors. Furthermore, nine ampelographic descriptors were evaluated for berry characterization in this study, and the highest amount of variation was attained by berry descriptors.…”
