The study is interested in finding a correlation between motivation and study habits with Japanese Language Proficiency Test N3. Students of the Japanese Language Study Program at Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta 4th Grade the academic year 2018-2019. This research used a quantitative approach with a correlational approach. The research variables were Motivation (X1), study habits (X2), and the results of JLPT N3 (Y). The sample was 20 students determined by the non-probability sampling technique. Data were collected using questionnaires and document analysis. The questionnaire assessed motivation and study habits and documents to determine the Japanese Language Proficiency Test N3. Data analysis used multiple correlation analysis with the help of SPSS Statistics version 23. In the final results of calculations with various correlation analyses, Ha was rejected. There was no correlation between Motivation (X1) and study habits (X2) with Japanese Language Proficiency Test N3 (Y) in 4thgrade students of Japanese Language Department UMY, 2018-2019. The known F value is 0.543 0.05. The hypothesis received in this study is that there is no correlation between motivation and study habits with the Japanese Language Proficiency Test N3.

This research was conducted based on the low level of students' critical thinking skills because the learning process carried out in class was considered less effective in developing students' interests, talents and potential. The purpose of this research is generally carried out to determine the extent to which the application of the independent learning method in improving student learning outcomes of the Japanese Literature Study Program. Specifically, this research aims to describe the steps for implementing the self-learning method which includes planning, implementation, and evaluation, as well as describing the application of the self-learning method. Independent learning methods are implemented to overcome these problems so that students have motivation, more learning experiences, and students will be more independent. The data collection techniques used were questionnaires, interviews, and data validation as a review to see the validity of the data. The results of the study obtained data. Learning activities with a critical thinking approach had an impact on changing the way students think. These changes can be seen from the questionnaire data which shows that the majority of the sample agreed with statement number 8 as much as 76%. In the next sequence is statement no.15 with the number of those who answered agree as much as 75%. Statements no.12, no.13, and no.16 received 60% answers. Meanwhile statement.

Latar Belakang: Prestasi belajar bahasa Jepang pada saat pandemi COVID-19 dipengaruhi oleh faktor internal dan eksternal. Faktor yang perlu diperhatikan dengan kaitan proses belajar mengajar diantara lain adalah motivasi belajar dan metode pembelajaran Tujuan: Untuk dapat mengetahui pengaruh metode pembelajaran dengan motivasi belajar maka diperlukan penelitian agar diperoleh jawaban yang akurat. Metode: Penelitian ini menggunakan penelitian kualitatif deskriptif. Jenis penelitian yang digunakan adalah melalui wawancara Hasil: Motivasi belajar bahasa Jepang di SMK Universitas Diponegoro. Dalam hal ini motivasi sangat dibutuhkan untuk memotivasi siswa untuk belajar karena motivasi merupakan aspek penting keberhasilan siswa. Tentunya berdasarkan keberhasilan siswa, sebelum menerima hambatan dan tantangan belajar di masa pandemi. Kendala tersebut datang dari berbagai bentuk, seperti kendala jaringan, maupun kendala dari kondisi keluarga siswa. Sementara itu, kendala yang ditimbulkan oleh siswa sendiri adalah kurangnya kesadaran untuk mengikuti pembelajaran online. Kesimpulan: Penelitian pendahuluan yang akan berfokus pada bagaimana motivasi belajar bahasa Jepang mahasiswa Program Studi konsentrasi bahasa Jepang di Universitas Diponegoro.
