The tourism program “Pueblos Mágicos” was created in 2001 by the Mexican Secretary of Tourism (Sectur), together with its brand, with the aim of promoting tourism by preserving secular and ancestral traditions, as well as revitalizing cities and towns that make great efforts to protect and safeguard their cultural wealth. In this context, the aim of this research work is to show the current state of scientific research carried out within the context of the Magic Towns of Mexico. The work methodology is based on the bibliometric analysis of the scientific production indexed in two main international databases: Web of Science and Scopus. The application of this technique will make it possible to obtain a scientific mapping of the production (growth, researchers in the subject, production impact through the number of citations, network analysis, etc.), with the aim of observing the evolution in the generation of knowledge regarding this tourism development tool that acts as a distinctive brand for tourism in Mexico. This mapping is useful for researchers as it provides information on the research carried out so far, allowing them to identify gaps to work on in their future research work. The systematic search process identified 52 articles. The results indicate that the research carried out in this context is incipient, with few researchers addressing the subject on a continuous basis and most of them being transient researchers with a single article. Most of the research was approached from the perspective of cultural heritage, cultural resources, inherited resources, cultural tourism, public policy, local development and sustainable tourism, and sustainable development. In light of the number of articles published, all of these can be considered to be incipient lines of research.

The objective of the work was to assess and identify potential perspectives for the development of agrotourism activity in the Hacienda Guachinango del Valle de los Ingenios in the Trinidad municipality, so that the methodology applied and the results achieved can serve as a reference for application in other similar contexts in the country and in the Central American area. For this, the analysis and synthesis of spatial elements, discussion groups, the interpretation of descriptive statistics, and the study of the natural and social environment were applied. The diagnosis of resources was carried out in this work to determine the degree of competitiveness and attraction of the agrotourism product, and it was possible to establish the most convenient strategies to follow, considering the real possibilities of prospective development of the place studied. It was concluded that the proposal to develop agrotourism in Hacienda Guachinango constitutes a viable option to design and introduce a strategy for growth and socioeconomic reactivation based on the use of the natural, historical, cultural, and social potentialities of the small families dedicated to agricultural work.

Los estudios socioespaciales del turismo se han enfocado en el análisis de lo mate-rial o lo simbólico desde posturas positivistas, críticas o hermenéuticas. En lo material, se han centrado en el análisis de los recursos naturales y culturales de un destino receptor, en la conformación histórica de un destino turístico y las transformaciones sociales, políticas, económicas y ambientales que se producen. Dentro de lo simbólico destacan tanto las percepciones como las valoraciones de los actores sociales del destino. Los modelos que conjugan ambos tipos de análisis, el material y el simbólico, presentan un mayor grado de complejidad teórica para llevar a cabo una investigación, por ello, con la intención de aportar una propuesta que integre componentes para el estudio del comportamiento socioespacial de un destino turístico, desde la perspectiva crítica se retoman los trabajos de la trialéc-tica de Lefebvre (2013) y del modelo de Harvey (1990) y se identificanlas catego-rías y unidades de análisis pertinentes para aplicarlas a la investigación turística. Tal postura teórica se manifiesa como diacrónica e integral, dado que involucra el espacio, el tiempo y el ser social.
