Multiparametric voxel-based analyses of standardized uptake values and apparent diffusion coefficients of soft-tissue tumours with a positron emission tomography/magnetic resonance system: Preliminary results

Abstract: • PET/MR allows voxel-based comparison of SUVs and ADCs in soft-tissue tumours. • A comprehensive assessment of internal heterogeneity was performed with scatter plots. • SUVmax or ADCminimum could not differentiate high-grade sarcoma from low/intermediate-grade tumours. • Only the correlation coefficient between SUV and ADC differentiated the two groups. • The correlation coefficient showed the best diagnostic performance by ROC analysis.

“…All patients were scanned using PET/MRI within 30 min after the PET/CT exam using the Ingenuity TF PET/MRI system (Philips Healthcare). After the scout image was taken and a 3D-T1-weighted image was acquired to correct attenuation [10], patients underwent PET imaging with 3D-ordered subset expectation maximisation (3D-OSEM) and time-of-flight. The field-of-view for the PET imaging was 576 × 576 mm 2 (recon.…”

“…This may be an ideal imaging tool for EZ detection because it can evaluate both anatomical and functional information simultaneously. Hybrid PET/MRI systems have already been applied in cancer research, such as in brain, head and neck, lung, musculoskeletal, and pancreatic cancers [10]. To the best of our knowledge, there are no data directly comparing the diagnostic accuracy of FDG-PET/CT and FDG-PET/MRI in patients with histopathologically confirmed epilepsy as a reference standard.…”

“…Sagiyama et al [134] performed a prospective study of 35 patients with soft tissue tumors who underwent the PET/MRI system to evaluate the usefulness of voxel-based PET and MRI parameters for differentiating high-grade from lowgrade and intermediate-grade sarcomas. Using the SUV on PET and the apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) on MRI for every voxel of tumor lesions, the authors calculated the correlation coefficients between SUV and ADC and heterogeneity, defined as the elliptical 95% area of bivariate normal distribution of SUV and ADC, for each patient, in addition to tumor volume, maximum SUV, and minimum ADC.…”
