Nanoceria-mediated delivery of doxorubicin enhances the anti-tumour efficiency in ovarian cancer cells via apoptosis

Abstract: Nanocarriers are widely used for effective delivery of anticancer drugs to tumours with potential to improve cancer treatment. Here, we developed a nanoceria (CeO2)-based system for delivery of the anti-cancer drug doxorubicin (DOX) to human ovarian cancer cells. Negatively charged nanoceria could conjugate with the cationic DOX via electrostatic interaction under physiological conditions, forming DOX-loaded nanoceria (CeO2/DOX). CeO2/DOX particles displayed nearly spherical shapes, along with superior drug-lo… Show more

“…Furthermore, NC enhances the antitumor activity of doxorubicin and increases apoptosis in cancer cells. NC also has cytotoxic effects; however, cotreatment of cancer cells with doxorubicin and NC showed synergistic effects (34). In our pilot study, we observed the cytotoxic effect of NC at a dose of 5 mg/kg, and co-treatment of NC and CP markedly decreased oxidative stress marker levels, liver injury enzyme levels, histopathological changes, and apoptosis in the liver (not published).…”

“…Also, they were exhibited that NC have cytotoxic effects. But co-treatment cancer cells with doxorubicin and NC showed synergistic effects [49]. In our pilot study, we saw cytotoxic effect of NC in dose of 5 mg/kg for 7 days, and co-treatment NC and CP markley decreased oxidative stress markers, renal injury markers, histopathological and apoptosis in kidney [not publish].…”
