Nanophase hardfaced coatings

Abstract: This paper demonstrates the possibility of producing iron-or chromium-based nanophase hardfaced coatings by means of common arc welding methods (TIG, PTA). The appropriate composition of the alloys to be deposited allows to control the structural properties and thus also the coating properties of the weld metal. Specific variations of the alloying elements allow also the realisation of a nanostructured solidification of the carbides and borides with cooling rates that are common for arc surfacing processes. “…Numerous carbide precipitates with empirical formula Cr 7 C 3 , Cr 23 C 6 and NbC were observed and detected in the samples. Despite a high amount of boron in the chemical composition of the welds XRD analyses failed to identify any appreciable amount of boron containing compounds.…”

“…abrasion-resistant plates and tubes. The above-named group constitutes a new generation of abrasion-resistant materials, which, obtained in a highly complex production process, have found applications in the metallurgical, mining, and automotive industries as well as in foundries, sand excavation, waste disposal, power plants, and in the operation of machinery parts and equipment [12][13][14][15][16]. Abrasion-resistant plates are characterized by good weldability, toughness, and mechanical workability, thus offering the combination of high hardness with high resistance to mechanical loads.…”
