“…In the 2 cases previously described in the literature for this species, the presence or absence of inflammatory changes in the colonic mu cosa was not specified [4,6]. Two addi tional features of the neoplasia, however, coincided well with the picture described for the cotton-topped tamarin: (1) The can cer was located in the ascending colon (cae cum and ascending colon are the most com mon sites in the cotton-topped tamarin) [3,6]. However, the presence of further can cerous lesions in the case reported here can not be ruled out completely, as only 3 trans verse sections of the colon were histologi cally examined.…”

“…For the present, the possibilities are limited to com parisons between certain features observed in the present case and in the described adenocarcinomas of the cotton-topped tamarin. While chronic colitis appears to play an important if not obligatory role in the pathogenesis of colonic cancer in cottontopped tamarins [1,3,[6][7][8], only mild chronic inflammation was noted in the Goeldi's monkey discussed in this paper, and the good body condition did not indi cate a chronic digestive problem. In the 2 cases previously described in the literature for this species, the presence or absence of inflammatory changes in the colonic mu cosa was not specified [4,6].…”
