Neuber’s rule accounting for the material nonlinearity influence on the stress concentration of the laminated composites

Abstract: Since holes comprise the necessary features of many structural components, a comprehensive understanding of the behavior of composite plates containing an open hole is a crucial step in their design process. In the present manuscript, an extensive numerical study has been conducted in order to investigate the effects of material nonlinearity on the stress distribution and stress concentration factors in unidirectional and laminated composite materials. To attain this objective, various models with different co… Show more

“…In [7], an analysis was made of the fracture of woven glass/epoxy composite laminates with a notch under tensile load. In [8], for different models with different configurations, an analysis was made of the influence of material nonlinearity on the stress distribution and stress concentration factors in unidirectional and layered composite materials. In [9], a complex numerical analysis was carried out to assess the accuracy of the Tan model for obtaining the stress concentration factor for a composite of finite dimensions containing an open hole.…”

“…Material models were further developed for the shear response on the basis of the experiments, which were subsequently applied to simulate the mechanical behavior of composite structures. [20][21][22][23][24][25] The objective of this study is to develop a progressive damage FEM that is sufficient to predict the failure strength and behavior of composite bolted joints. Three-dimensional explicit models were proposed using mix-mode failure criteria and gradual degradation in Abaqus/Explicit, with nonlinear shear stressstrain response considered in the constitutive equations.…”
