New Dynamic Battery Model for Hybrid Vehicles and Dynamic Model Analysis Using Simulink

Abstract: Mathematical modeling and dynamic simulation of battery storage systems can be challenging and demanding due to nonlinear nature. Simulation in time domain could be time consuming as battery storage (BS) systems do not behave according to readily available mathematical functions. Economic advantages, partial sustainability and the portability of these units pose promising substitutes for backup power systems in hybrid vehicles, hybrid electricity power generation systems, telecommunication exchanges and comput… Show more

“…The effect of the temperature on the behavior of battery was modeled by an adaptation made by Wijewardana [125]. The mentioned author stated that the temperature influenced four parameters of This model accurately represents the dynamic phenomenon of the voltage when the current varies, and the open circuit voltage is considered as a function of the state of charge of the battery [122,123].…”

The mentioned author stated that the temperature influenced four parameters of the battery, which were the polarization constant (K), the battery voltage constant (E 0 ), the exponential zone amplitude (A), and the exponential zone time constant inverse (B).…”

“…The newly released MATLAB software version R2017b [11] [12] includes a generic lithium-ion battery model that incor-porates the temperature and aging functions and these effects on battery performance can be evaluated individually. This generic MATLAB battery model has been modified by many researchers to include some missing features, such as the self-discharge and internal resistance variation [13], nonlinear temperature dependence [14], and is commonly applied to the dynamic analysis for electric vehicles [12] [15]. The most advantageous feature of the generic MATLAB battery model is that the model parameters are estimated from a manufacturer's datasheet and only three points on one discharge curve are needed, namely the initial fully charged point (100% state of charge), the point at the end of exponential zone and the point at the end of nominal zone [7].…”
