New insights into the factors influencing movements and spatial distribution of reintroduced Bengal tigers ( Panthera tigris tigris ) in the human-dominated buffer zone of Panna Tiger Reserve, India

Abstract: The influence of tiger-specific (sex, age group), environmental (seasons, photoperiod) and anthropogenic (human use regimes) factors on the movements and spatial distribution of tigers using the human-dominated buffer zone of the Panna Tiger Reserve, India was studied. Generalised linear mixed models were used to test the significance of the relationships between the covariates influencing tiger presence. We report that tiger-specific factors – age group (generation) and sex – and environmental factors – seaso… Show more

“…Both disturbance and habitat variables are important predictors of animal distribution (Morrison, 2001;Bhattarai and Kindlmann, 2013;Kolipaka et al, 2017). The habitat requirements of the giant panda have been studied comprehensively (e.g.…”

“…The Madhya Pradesh state government and conservation partners have collaborated to revive tiger species. To assure their long-term survival, however, large swaths of corridor forests outside the protected areas must be safeguarded (Kolipaka et al, 2017). These forests consist of multiple-use and private lands with many villages and high human activity, but the reach of conservation agencies into these rural areas is weak.…”

“…Finally, for carnivore populations with severely skewed ASR and low abundance, recovery and persistence may well depend on the timely implementation of mitigation measures such as the supplementation of breeding-age individuals to compensate for skewed sex-ratios (Lambertucci et al, 2013;Reddy et al, 2016). With population declines in various areas, this is increasingly being viewed as an essential and viable strategy to achieve tiger population recovery across the species range ( Sankar et al, 2010;Gray et al, 2017;Kolipaka et al, 2017;Harihar et al, 2018), Ecological Process: , and ' 1 Joint posterior distribution: Table 2.
