Sustainability is an important issue in the 21st century. Although there are a high number of publications, some areas are still untouched, like sustainability concepts in shipyards. This paper aims to explore the literature of the sustainability concept in the shipbuilding industry and to propose a further research outline. The impact of green supply chain practices (GSCM) on three sustainability performance-economic, environmental and social performance-will be also examined. A systematic literature review is applied between 1980 and 2020 using Scopus and Web of Science databases. After eliminating duplicates, unrelated articles, a total of 27 articles were identified. The analysis shows that there is not much research on the shipyard's sustainability and the green supply chain practices impact on the economic, environmental and social performance. One article examined the relations of green supply chain readiness, customer requirements, governmental involvement, social responsibility and competitive advantage to the willingness to participate in green supply chain management initiatives in the suppliers of two big shipyards. The other one examined which of the sustainable development goals collaborate with the maritime industry based on publicly published corporate social responsibility and sustainable development reports. Both studies do not focus on green supply chain practices as a performance evaluation of the three sustainable dimensions in a shipyard. In addition, there are dissertations in Turkey, which examined green supply chain practices and their impacts on the environmental, social and economic performance in the manufacturing, packaging companies, finding significance positive relations. As a result, we found that few studies examined the sustainability of shipyards, this study will fill the literature gap being one of the first study on this subject and contributing to the emerging shipyards sustainability literature.

Ship building, as an energy-intensive sector, produces significant amounts of air emissions, including greenhouse gases. Most research in greenhouse gas reductions from shipping concentrates on the reduction in emissions during the operational phase. However, as emissions during ship operation are reduced, the construction and dismantling phases of ships are becoming increasingly important in the assessment of the life-cycle impact of ships. In this study, priorities for a Turkish shipyard to become energy efficient were identified by means of a semi-structured questionnaire and an interview. This was undertaken using Fuzzy Multi-Criteria Decision-Making methods, including the Fuzzy Analytical Hierarchy Process and Fuzzy Order of Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution, which are part of a proposed systematic and transdisciplinary Energy Management Framework and System. By applying Multi-Criteria Decision-Making methods, this framework supports the shipyard’s decision makers to make rational and optimized decisions regarding energy sectors within their activities. Applying the framework has significant potential to help achieve good product quality while reducing costs and environmental impacts, and can thereby enhance the sustainability of shipping. Moreover, the framework can boost both business and socio-economic perspectives for the shipyard, and improve its reputation and competitiveness, in alignment with achieving the Nationally Determined Contributions of States under the Paris Agreement.

As a campus that has a maritime mission, Madura State Polytechnic has made a master plan for campus development by building a shipyard. This is also supported by the campus located on the beach. In preparing the shipyard, facilities are very important, so a careful planning is needed in doing the layout. In this paper, we will propose a layout process based on the production flow pattern of shipbuilding, comparison with the layout design using the CORELAP algorithm method, by calculating the percentage value of material handling and planning tools and facilities for the POLTERA shipyard. The facility layout planning obtained new and repaired building types with an area of ??5.16 hectares and a layout design with an L layout production flow pattern. The design had a material handling percentage value of 21.62%.
