“…. Two different low‐index orientation relationships (ORs) were recently identified: Nifalse[1true1false¯0false]false(111false)YSZfalse[1true1false¯0false]false(111false) (OR 1 ) and Nifalse[true1false¯10false]false(111false)YSZfalse[1true1false¯0false]false(111false) (OR 2 ). Using the <112> zone axis, the equivalent OR to OR 1 is Nifalse[11true2false¯false]false(111false)YSZfalse[11true2false¯false]false(111false) and the equivalent OR to OR 2 is Nifalse[true1false¯true1false¯2false]false(111false)YSZfalse[11true2false¯false]false(111false).…”

“…It should be noted that SAD patterns as well as HRTEM micrographs of the two <112>‐ORs are identical, thus it is impossible to determine the exact OR (equivalent to OR 1 or OR 2 ) based on SAD or HRTEM alone. Since the <112> projection is identical in both cases, and since particles oriented with OR 1 have a lower interface energy than those with OR 2, it is more likely that a Ni particle sectioned in the <112> projection is oriented with the substrate in the lower interface energy OR. Therefore, the <112> viewing direction shown in this work is treated as <112>‐OR 1 : Nifalse[11true2false¯false]false(111false)YSZfalse[11true2false¯false]false(111false), i.e., complementary to Nifalse[1true1false¯0false]false(111false)YSZfalse[1true1false¯0false]false(111false) (OR 1 ).…”

“…In the present study Ni (FCC) particles were equilibrated on single crystal (001) YSZ (cubic fluorite structure) substrates via solid‐state dewetting, in a manner similar to our previous studies on (111) YSZ substrates . The ORs between the equilibrated particles and the substrate were examined, and the interface energy was measured from fully equilibrated particles.…”

“…Laguna‐Bercero and Larrea studied Ni‐YSZ interfaces prepared by the reduction of NiO‐YSZ directionally solidified eutectics and found four different ORs: Ni[110](11¯1)||YSZ[100](002), Ni[110](11¯1)||YSZ[110](002), Ni[100](002)||YSZ[110](002), and Ni[110](002)||YSZ[110](002) . In our previous work, we studied equilibrated Ni‐YSZ interfaces formed via solid‐state dewetting on single crystal (111) YSZ substrates and found two ORs, similar to some of the ORs mentioned above: Ni[11¯0](111)||YSZ[11¯0](111), and Ni[1¯10](111)||YSZ[11¯0](111) …”
