“…Although the relationship between nocturia frequency and objectively‐measured sleep has been studied in other adult populations, few studies have examined this relationship in individuals age 85 years or older, which is the age group with the highest levels of disability requiring long‐term care . Our wake‐time findings are similar to those reported by Zeitzer et al (in a sample with mean age 62 years), where a 34 minute difference in mean wake‐after‐sleep‐onset between voiding three times/night vs 0 times/night was found . We did not find an association between frequency of nocturia and objectively measured total sleep time, in contrast to a study by Yu et al, which found that nocturia frequency was weakly correlated with self‐reported total sleep time ( r = 0.13, P = .003) .…”

“…Nocturia is associated with self‐reported short total sleep time in one‐fifth of adults . More frequent nocturia is positively associated with actigraphically measured sleep disruption (overall wakefulness after sleep onset) . Nocturia predicts worse self‐reported sleep quality .…”

“…Zeitzer et al [25] investigated the link between sleep and nocturia. Their study of patients with insomnia used a cohort of 55 men with a mean age of 64.3 and 92 women with a mean age of 62.5; in this study, they looked at the effects of nocturia on objective measures of sleep.…”

“…From the BACH trial, Fitzgerald et al surveyed 5,502 men and women between the ages of 30 and 79 and found the incidence of nocturia (>1 void per night) to be 25.2% in men and 31.3% in women (66). Not only is it relatively prevalent, nocturia is also very bothersome to patients, as it has been associated with increased depressive symptoms, worse sleep, and increased fatigue (67,68). …”
