“…After reexamination of the type material, Tuovila et al (2011) determined that there were two distinct species present. As the holotype of C. oregana did not contain apothecia corresponding to its original description, Tuovila et al (2011) discarded the epithet oregana and described two new species from the type material, Chaenothecopsis zebrina Rikkinen & Tuovila and Chaenothecopsis diabiolica Rikkinen & Tuovila. Given the availability of paratypes, however, Tuovila et al learned that the original epithet oregana should not have been discarded; a lectotype was designated, the original epithet reinstated and C. zebrina was reduced to a synonym of C. oregana (Tuovila et al 2012). The second species in the original type material of C. oregana, Chaenothecopsis diabiolica Rikkinen & Tuovila, has larger spores that often have a roughened coat, whereas our material corresponds with the description of C. oregana in Tuovila et al (2011) as C. zebrina (nom.…”

Scales = 0.15 mm in A, 9 um in B, 1.75 um in C. conducted a review of salient North American calicioid literature (Haughland & Martel 2016;McMullin 2018;McMullin et al 2012;McMullin et al 2018;Selva 2010Selva , 2013Selva , 2014Selva & Tibell 1999;Tuovila et al 2011;Tuovila et al 2012) and unpublished data from R.T.M. for calicioids in PNG.…”

“…Most resinicolous fungi described to date are ascomycetes within the order Mycocaliciales ( Eurotiomycetes ) ( e.g. Rikkinen 2003 , Rikkinen et al 2014 , Tuovila et al 2011a , b , 2012 , Tuovila 2013 ). Sorocybe resinae ( Chaetothyriales, Herpotrichiellaceae ) and its synasexual morph Hormodendrum resinae ( Seifert et al 2007 ), and S. oblongispora ( Crous et al 2019 ), represent asexual Eurotiomycetes that are also often found on resin.…”
