Numerical simulation of blood flow effects on rupture of aneurysm in middle cerebral artery

Abstract: The morbidity and mortality of aneurysm rupture have raised significantly in current years. In this research, numerical investigations have been performed to disclose the impacts of hemodynamic on the breach and growth of the Intracranial Aneurysms (IA) in the middle cerebral artery (MCA). To perform this research, computational fluid dynamic (CFD) methodology is employed to model the non-Newtonian blood stream through the IA. 3D model of IA is chosen for the analysis blood flow. Wall shear stress (WSS) was ev… Show more

“…High-precision anatomic models, application of a suitable viscosity model, the accurate boundary conditions for the blood flow, and fluid–solid interactions on the wall of the artery are some of the main considerations for the computational study of the blood flow within the aneurysm. Due to the importance of this topic, there are several models for the real estimation of the blood stream inside the cardiovascular arteries 25 , 26 .…”

“…the accumulation of red blood cells, in addition to the adhesion and aggregation of both leukocytes and platelets along the intimal surface occurs when blood flow locally stagnated. Indeed, high WSS results in mechanical stimulation and consequently, dysfunction of flow-induced nitric oxide occurs in this condition [21][22][23] . According to previous studies, to maintain the feature of the aneurysmal wall, WSS of 2 Pa is appropriate in which deterioration of endothelial cells is noticed in the lower WSS.…”

“…It should be considered that the blood stream inside the arteries follows the rhythm of heart pulse and this has high influence on the growth and rupture of the aneurysms. Although several works have been developed for the hemodynamic study of the blood stream inside the aneurysms [15][16][17] , the most previous works just select superficial aneurysm model for case studies. Meanwhile, correct characteristics of blood stream is not also considered for their evaluations.…”
