Olive Oil Based Organogels for Effective Topical Delivery of Fluconazole: In-vitro Antifungal Study

Abstract: The objective of the study was to formulate olive oil based organogels for the topical application of fluconazole (FLZ), to ensure the efficient delivery of the drug deeper in to the skin layers. Methods: Nine formulations developed by hot-melt method using olive oil, sorbitan monostearate (SMS) and FLZ. Prepared formulations characterized for macro evaluations, pH, spreadibility, viscosity, gel-sol transition, in-vitro diffusion study. Further optimized formulation evaluated for ex-vivo percutaneous per… Show more

“…A spreadability test was performed by taking the sample (AgNPs loaded chitosanbased gels-AgNPs-CBG) under study sandwiched between two glass plates of (10 cm × 20 cm) size. Thereafter, 50 g weight was placed over the top plate, kept for 60 s. The spreading diameter of AgNPs-CBG was measured thrice, and standard deviation was calculated [31].…”

“…To test the spreadability of the developed gel, the viscosity was measured and reported as 36,176 cps. The optimal viscosity for topical preparation is in the range of 35,000 to 40,000 cps and provides both acceptable flow properties and spreadability [ 33 ]. In addition, the particle size and PDI value affect the viscosity of the gel.…”

“…The electrode of the pH meter was incorporated into the sample and allowed to be stable for few minutes. The reading of the test sample was noted from the pH meter in triplicate at room temperature (Ahmed et al., 2020 ). The viscosity of the prepared optimized formulation was evaluated by using a viscometer (Brook field viscometer, RV-2 T, USA) using spindle number 6 at room temperature.…”
