“…The concept of 'ecological modernization' (Mol and Ja¨nicke, 2009; is used to emphasize the transformation in the environmental institution in the direction of rational management (Huber, 2000(Huber, , 2004. In this context, rational management refers to a social intent to harmonize environmental protection and economic growth (Karp and Rezai, 2014;Kirchga¨ssner and Schneider, 2001). Nevertheless, in a more comprehensive perspective, ecological modernization, as a specific form of society-nature relationship, requires the implementation of: (i) a particular representation and definition of nature and its components, (ii) a specific understanding of environmental ecosystems that can relate to the policy instruments available, (iii) a novel dispositive to measure environmental impacts and compensation of damages and (iv) new mechanisms to allow and/or constrain different forms of action over ecosystems.…”
