On the shrimp skin chitosan STEM education research-based learning activities: obtaining an alternative natural preservative for processed meat

Abstract: Elaborating Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics in learning activities is now getting important, especially to improve the STEM literacy of the students of school age or higher. For the higher age students, elaborating the STEM education should encourage them to raise their higher-order thinking skills. Thus the implementation of research-based learning together with a STEM education will be a good model in designing learning activities. Meanwhile, in STEM education, integrating some social real-… Show more

“…The homogeneity test criterion is if the significance value is more than 0.05 (> 0.05), then the variance of two groups data is the same (homogeneous), but if the significance value is less than 0.05, then the variance of two groups data is not the same (non-homogeneous). Furthermore, the research was continued by conducting in-depth interviews to triangulate the data analysis results (Gita et al, 2021). The basis for selecting students to be interviewed was to see the results of their historical literacy of post-test.…”

“…STEM is a learning approach that motivates students to come up with mind-on and hand-on-learning through the problem-solving process (Gita et al, 2021). STEM integration is defined as a combination of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (Ridlo, 2020).…”

“…While STEM is a learning approach involving elements, namely science, technology, engineering, and mathematics in solving problems, especially problems that arise from real-life problems (Anderson et al, 2001). The STEM problem on the use of chitosan as a natural preservative for processed meat was proposed (Gita et al, 2021), see in Fig 1: While the use of RBL-STEM in the learning process for the use of chitosan as a natural preservative for processed meat has previously been discussed (Gita et al, 2021).…”
