Optical add-drop multiplexers based on the antisymmetric waveguide Bragg grating

Abstract: A novel optical add-drop multiplexer (OADM) based on a null coupler with an antisymmetric grating was designed and experimentally demonstrated. The antisymmetric grating exclusively produces a reflection with mode conversion in a two-mode waveguide. This improves the performance compared with previous demonstrations that used tilted Bragg gratings. Our design minimizes noise and cross talk produced by reflection without mode conversion. In addition, operational bandwidth and, versatility are improved while the… Show more

“…Integrated optical add-drop multiplexers (OADMs) such as those suggested in Refs. [13][14][15][16] require low birefringence not only for the fundamental (even) but also for the second order (odd) mode. This is why it is important to define the second order mode birefringence, too.…”

“…Also recently, the anti-symmetric waveguide grating has been proposed for mode conversion in the multimode waveguide and its application for high-efficiency integrated optical add-drop multiplexer (OADM) was also demonstrated [7], [8]. In this letter, a REC based anti-symmetric-sample (ASS) grating structure is first proposed and studied for changing the WS-CWC.…”
