Optimized combination model and algorithm of parking guidance information configuration

Abstract: Operators of parking guidance and information (PGI) systems often have difficulty in providing the best car park availability information to drivers in periods of high demand. A new PGI configuration model based on the optimized combination method was proposed by analyzing of parking choice behavior. This article first describes a parking choice behavioral model incorporating drivers perceptions of waiting times at car parks based on PGI signs. This model was used to predict the influence of PGI signs on the o… Show more

“…Then, the authors modeled an optimal parking space choices according to fuzzy multiple attribute decision making. Mei et al [188] described a parking choice behavioral model incorporating drivers' perceptions of waiting times at car parks based on VMS near Shanghai. Then, the arrival rates were estimated based on driver characteristics, car park attributes and availability information.…”

“…Although across the world, for example in cities like Pasadena, USA, some of the studies conducted by the Department of Transportation [2], brings out the causes of parking lot availability problems and its solutions like common parking lots for two adjoining areas, shuttle services and carpooling services. Zhenyu Mei and Ye Tian [3] tried to formulate a mathematical model and solve the parking lot availability issue by using artificial intelligence and generic algorithm techniques for Deqing Town and Xiuning City. A similar study had been done but with respect to transportation problems faced by the students of Universiti Malaysia Pahang.…”

“…Because the spatial resources of a city are limited and the construction cost of new parking is expensive [19], the parking demands flow to the popular parking lot needs to be diverted to the less utilized ones. Moreover, traffic manager and drivers are two entities with different benefits seeking that enhancing the performance of the entire network is the traffic managers' goal, while drivers generally make the parking choice based on their own demands and judgments [20]. If there is a big gap between the objectives of traffic managers and drivers, the performances of parking VMS decline in no doubt.…”
