Optimum design of the stator parameters for noise and vibration reduction in BLDC motor

Abstract: A new optimum structural design is presented here in order to shift the natural frequencies of the stator structure in brushless DC motor to the highest values at different mode shapes and increase the stator stiffness. Shifting the stator natural frequencies to higher values reduces or eliminates the severe effects of the structural resonances as the coincidence of the natural frequencies and the components of the motor electromagnetic excitation forces occur at higher frequencies at which the forces have low… Show more

“…The LCM and K w indices of all the possible (S, R) combinations that can satisfy (2) are listed in Table 2. Obviously, the two slot-pole combinations of (18,16) and (18,20) will offer the highest winding factors (K w = 0.945) with different LCMs. By considering the construction convenience within limited physical dimensions, the (S, R) combination with less rotor poles of 16 was selected.…”

“…Finally, the finite element method and analytical formula are used to calculate and analyze the influence of the tooth chamfering method on the electromagnetic vibration and noise of the motor. Jafarboland and Farahabadi [4] optimized the stator yoke thickness (D) and slot angle (A) related parameters of the stator slot to maximize the stator natural frequency without changing the slot area and stator outer diameter. In terms of stator slot inclination, a lot of research has been done.…”

“…For example, in Ref. [6], some parameters relating to the stator slot are optimised to make modal frequencies of the stator reach the highest value. Since the amplitude of radial force with a large frequency is relatively small, it can lead to weakening or eliminate the influence of structural resonance, so as to reduce the noise.…”
