Show more

“…It ranged between 1.50 and 7.56%, with an average of 3.78% (Figure 4). The lowest amounts were observed, in both seasons, at S-1 (Foum Agoutir, inlet of the lagoon), due to high hydrodynamic characteristic at this station and for the prevalence of sandy texture [26]. Generally, sediments in rough waters are sandy and then exhibit lower metal contents [47].…”

“…Lefrere et al [23] achieved the same conclusion using benthic fauna. In addition, the lagoon receives neither freshwater supply from the mainland nor waste discharges, and therefore is characterized only by a continuous renewal of water according to the current tidal trend [26].…”

“…These two elements are also related to the organic matter decomposition and bacteria, especially the nitrificants bacteria of the water, that also increase the NO3 production (De Wilde et al, 2015;Gómez-Alday et al, 2014). The high concentrations of nitrates, phosphates, as well as the water alkalinity, induce the eutrophication of dayat Morsli, as demonstrated in studies on polluted lakes in Kenya and Morocco (Jirsa et al, 2013;Lakhdar Idrissi et al, 2004).…”

“…Indeed, temporal variations in benthic communities associated with the environmental characteristics of lagoons, have been studied (5)(6)(7). Benthic macrofauna is closely correlated with the ecological conditions prevailing at the sediment-water interface where a multiple effect of organic enrichment and pollutant occurs (8).…”
