P‐78: A Thermally Adaptive Response Time Compensation System for LCD Panels

Abstract: This paper presents thermally adaptive driving (TAD) technology for response time compensation (RTC) of an LCD with an integrated sensor. The TAD is comprised of analog sensor signal conditioning and a digital feedback algorithm. The integrated thermal sensor provides accurate temperature measurement of the liquid crystal layer. The TAD controller has an 8-step look-up-table (LUT), and compensates response time based on the panel temperature. The TAD system reduces response time by nearly 50% over the temperat… Show more

“…By equation (5), the amplitude of the transfer function is close to 1 near zero frequency and it decays as frequency increases. Moreover, the harmonic tones of the transfer function in equation (5) in high frequency also contribute noise to the delta-sigma A/D converter. It represents as a non-ideal low-pass filter because noise in the bit stream b[n] can be attenuated at only the certain frequency.…”

“…Analog-to-digital converters (ADCs) are widely used in interface of the analog sensing circuits and digital processing circuits. For example, sensor is widely used in many applications, such as temperature sensor and image sensor [4][5][6]. Besides, sensing circuit can be applied to color image scanner, temperature compensation circuit, and touch panel that are indispensable in LTPS technology.…”

“…Moreover, ADCs have been widely used in the interface of the analog sensing circuits and digital-processing circuits, such as the touch-panel system or the thermal compensation system, to convert the analog signals into digital signals. [10][11][12] Thus, integration of ADC on glass substrate is a value-added approach to SOP applications.…”

“…Consequently, the AMOLED displays should use a temperature compensation system for high reliability and to maintain a good performance in wide temperature range. For temperature compensation system, a thermal sensor and its feedback system are the proper solution [7]. Following this article, a thermal sensor integrated onto a-Si:H backplane to measure the environmental temperature and feedback system for compensation of OLED brightness are presented.…”
