Paclitaxel-loaded lignin particle encapsulated into electrospun PVA/PVP composite nanofiber for effective cervical cancer cell inhibition

Abstract: Electrospun composite nanofibrous scaffolds have been regarded as a potential carrier for local drug delivery to prevent tumor recurrence. Herein, a model drug (paclitaxel) was creatively loaded into lignin nanoparticles (PLNPs) and then encapsulated into the polymer of poly (vinyl alcohol)/polyvinyl pyrrolidone which has been fabricated into a composite nanofibrous membrane (PVA/PVP-PLNPs) for use as a drug carrier using the electrospinning technique. The fabricated PVA/PVP-PLNPs membranes exhibited good part… Show more

“…The characteristic peak at 1424 cm − 1 corresponds to the bending vibration peak of -CH 2 , and 1142 and 851 cm − 1 are the characteristic peaks caused by C-C stretching vibration [ 27 , 28 ]. It can be seen that the characteristic peak of Van cannot be observed in PVA/Van, which may be due to the successful encapsulation of Van into the interior of fibers [ 29 ]. In the infrared peak of PVA/ZIF-8 and PVA/V@Z membranes, the characteristic absorption peaks of ZIF-8 at 1180, 752 and 684 cm − 1 can be observed, indicating the encapsulation of ZIF-8 and V@Z particles in them.…”

“…Despite the extensive use of lignin-loaded nanodrug carriers alone, drug-loaded LNPs can also be encapsulated into nanofibers for efficient cervical cancer-cell inhibition, as suggested by Li et al [ 87 ]. In particular, the authors first loaded paclitaxel (model drug) into lignin nanoparticles and, subsequently, encapsulated, using the electrospinning technique, the paclitaxel-LNPs into a composite and biocompatible nanofibrous membrane that was composed of poly(vinyl alcohol)/polyvinyl pyrrolidone for drug-carrier purposes.…”
