Participation of Brazil in the World Congresses on Alternatives and Animal Use in the Life Sciences: An Increase in Commitment to the Three Rs

Abstract: Many Brazilian researchers have long been interested in the development and use of alternative methods. Most of their research groups work in isolation, due to the lack of funding for collaborative studies. “…The Brazilian Centre for the Validation of Alternative Methods (BraCVAM) has recommended 24 validated alternative methods that have been endorsed by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). 2,3 Among these methods, we highlight here OECD Test Guideline (TG) 431: in vitro skin corrosion 4 and OECD TG 439: in vitro skin irritation, 5 which have been recognised and accepted by the Brazilian regulatory authorities. In fact, these in vitro tests have been mandatory replacements to the original animal tests since September 2019.…”
