Performance of prestressed concrete box bridge girders under hydrocarbon fire exposure

Abstract: This article presents an approach for investigating performance of prestressed concrete box bridge girders under hydrocarbon fire exposure. A three-dimensional nonlinear finite element model, developed in computer program ANSYS, is utilized to analyze the response of prestressed concrete box bridge girders under combined effects of fire exposure duration and simultaneous structural loading. The model validation is performed using a scaled prestressed concrete box girder exposed to ISO834 fire in furnace. Subse… Show more

“…With the advancement of science and technology and the improvement of the national economic level, China's bridge construction has entered a glorious period [ 1 ]. As early as 2005, the total mileage of highways in China reached 1.9 million km, the total mileage of expressways exceeded 35,000 km, and the total number of highway bridges exceeded 330,000 [ 2 ].…”

“…The first step is to conduct fluidsolid coupling heat transfer analysis. Subsequently, the temperature distribution, generated from thermal analysis, is enforced on the structural model as nodal load to simulate the thermal effect of PC box bridge girders at its early hydration age (Song et al 2020).…”

“…Prestressed concrete transverse large cantilever continuous (PCTLCC) box girder bridges are widely constructed for their rational working performance, outstanding span adaptability, and structural economy to meet the requirements of modern infrastructure in traffic conditions [ 1 , 2 , 3 ]. The box girder section can effectively lighten the self-weight of the structures and provide high torsional rigidity to resist the torsion under eccentric load [ 4 , 5 ].…”
