Permaability of materials enhancing the water-tightness of concrete surface

Abstract

The capillary system of porous materials has significant influence on both strength and durability. In present research the influence of coatings on concretes was tested. The effect of coatings (having one or two components) for increasing the water tightness of concrete was tested by detailed chemical and physical analysis. The two-component coatings had lower porosity, water absorption and capillary suction, than the one-component, cement based premixed mortars. The vapour permeability of coated concrete specimens with one-component material was more than one order higher, than that of specimens with two-component coatings. The latter ones resulted a resistance against water pressure of 3 to 4 bars, depending on the thickness.
