Physical fitness women over 60 years of age participating in the activities of the University of the Third Age

Abstract: Introduction: Morphological and functional changes in cells, tissues and organs causing characteristic for old age reduction of the efficiency of all organs, and therefore decrease in the level of physical fitness. To determine its level, to find areas of weakness and select optimal physical activity programs that will improve the quality of life and health of older people it is necessary to multi-dimensional assess the level of physical fitness. The aim of this study is to evaluate the fitness level of st… Show more

“…The observed index results are similar to those presented by other authors [24,25,28]. In contrast to Zdrodowska's findings [25], which only showed a relationship between BMI and upper body flexibility, this research indicates a significant interdependence between this index and majority of particular fitness trials.…”

“…Her findings show that in all trials female respondents obtained positive results after normalization to the average result of the American population. The most significant differences in comparison to the standards were also observed in the arm curl trial [25]. As the author observed, it seemed that the result may have been influenced by the modification of the applied test due to the original weight units.…”

“…Elimination of this test from SFT indicates a satisfactory reliability of this index. The same negative correlations between “8 feet” and other tests of SFT also received Zdrodowska et al [29] Cautious approach to the interpretation of this efficiency test is recommended by Schone. [15] It seems that the cause of the negative correlation is the fact that this attempt is qualitatively different from the others.…”

“…The women attending a University of the Third Age were found to be highly active in numerous aspects of life in comparison with the group of seniors not participating in any organized educational/physical activity program. It has been observed that elderly individuals attending a U3A were altogether an intellectually and physically active group as confirmed in studies on their motor activity and ways of spending leisure time [ 32 , 33 ].…”
