Physiological and Molecular Characteristics of Bacterial Isolates from Bandealit Coastal Area Jember, East Java, Indonesia

Abstract: Bacteria are the most dominant group of microorganisms in aquatic environments due to their role in organic matter decomposition. Decomposition activity is related to the type and dominance of bacteria in the communities. Therefore, study of bacterial diversity is an important step to understand their role in aquatic ecosystems. This study was to determine bacterial diversity and their physiological characters of bacteria from Bandealit Coast in Jember East Java Indonesia. The bacteria were confirmed by BOX-PC… Show more

“…The microbial diversity research is of great value for many aspects, which includes 1) the development of biological resources, 2) accelerating the discovery process of new functional genes and bioactive substances, 3) the clari cation of the relationship between microbial communities and habitat, 4) the elucidation of the association between the community structure and function 15 . Previous studies have suggested that bacteria are the most dominant group of microorganisms in this environment 7 . Bacterial communities play an important role in material transformation in mangrove ecosystems 16 .…”

“…Microbes play an important role in material circulation, energy ow, and ecosystem stability 6 . In recent years, microorganisms as important members of mangrove ecosystems have received increasing attention 7,8 . Microbial diversity is an important part of biodiversity, and understanding the microbial diversity is the basis of microbial research in mangrove wetlands, which is of great value for developing microbial resources.…”

“…Strain I is known to be round, has a flat edge with convex elevation and wet consistency, and this strain is yellow, whereas Strain II is known to have the same shape as Strain 1, which is round but has uneven edges, flat elevation, and dry and creamy consistency. Bacteria have an essential role in the wastewater bioremediation process through their decomposition activity, where decomposition activity is highly related to the type of dominant bacteria in the communities (Fitriyah et al 2013). Morphological identification techniques conducted in order to identify poorly better described, rarely isolated, or phenotypically irregular strains (Tshikhudo et al 2013).…”

“…Identification of bateria based on 16S rRNA gene suquence analysis. The whole genome DNA of this isolate was extracted using the freezing and thawing method (Fitriyah et al, 2013). Amplification of the 16S rRNA encoder used a using primers 27f (5'-GAGAGTTTGA TCCTGGCTCAG-3') and 1495r (5'-CTAC GGCTACCTTGT TACGA-3') (Arimurti et al, 2017).…”
