“…Our interpretation of the biostratigraphic po¬ sition of Yorktown sediments at Lee Creek is consistent with that of Akers (1972) for the York¬ town at Rice's Pit, Virginia. It is also similar to that of Gibson (p. 363,herein Blow, 1969;Poag, 1972;Miles, 1977;Berggren, 1978). We find no faunal evidence for an age as young as zone N21.…”

“…2) suggests that its geographic range extends south to include DSDP Site 334, at 37°N. It was not recorded, however, by Miles (1977) in his account of this site, and it does not occur at Site 607 (41 °N). The two sites with the most common occurrences of this species are Site 608, at 43°N, and Site 410 (Poore, 1979), at 45°N.…”

“…We observe that the LO of G. dehiscens is a diachronous event from the north to the south Atlantic Ocean. The taxon is virtually absent in the upper Miocene of the Legs 37 and 94 sites near the Azores Islands (Miles, 1977;Weaver and Clement, 1987). At Site 397, (Cape Bojador, North Atlantic, Salvatorini and Cita, 1979), it ranges to Blow's Zone N16 and is very sporadic in the latest Miocene.…”
