Polarization beam pattern synthesis based on particle swarm optimization

Abstract: An optimal polarization beam pattern synthesis method based on particle swarm optimization is proposed in this paper. It is flexible to synthesize any state of polarization and arbitrary shape of power pattern. There is no limitation on the array geometry and element, and the proposed method is applicable for different array synthesis problems. Two typical examples, elliptical polarization synthesis with narrow main beam and linear polarization synthesis with shape main beam, are presented to show the potentia… Show more

“…In recent years, many articles have been devoted to the study of phased arrays [13,14,15,16,17,18,24]. Pattern synthesis and beamforming have also been studied by researchers extensively [19,21,22,23,25,26,27,28,29,30,31]. However, these methods have not investigated how to thin the phased array.…”

“…However, these articles ignore optimization for cross-polarization component. In [4], the particle swarm optimization (PSO) method is applied to synthesize the elliptical and linear polarization patterns for dual-polarized array with shaped main lobe and low side lobe and crosspolarization level. In [5], an improved differential evolution algorithm is proposed to achieve lower side lobe levels and suppress the cross-polarization.…”

“…Although there are not many papers talking about this issue, few methods can be still found in the literature. They include, for example, polarization-controllable pattern synthesis for vector antenna arrays in [20], polarized focused and shaped pattern synthesis for arbitrary antenna arrays in [21]- [23], frequency-invariant polarized pattern synthesis for wideband conformal arrays [24], and circular-polarization (CP) pattern synthesis for spherical arrays [25]. However, all these research assumed a fixed desired polarization state for all angular space of interest.…”
