Porous Concrete Pavement Containing Nano-Silica: Pre-Review

Abstract: Porous concrete pavement is being used as one of the solution to decrease the storm water runoff by capturing and allowing rain water to drain into the land surface. The main problem of porous concrete pavement is the strength itself. The objective of this paper is to review the use and performance of Nano-silica in porous concrete pavement. From the literature review of the previous research, it was found that the conventional porous concrete pavement doesn't has good strength for pavement purpose. An additio… Show more

“…The results indicate that fine aggregate can improve porous concrete's compressive strength and durability [13]. Other investigations applied the nanoparticle produced from the black rice husk ash, obtaining, as a result, a significant increase in the compression force and porosity [14]. In addition, porous concrete mixed with anti-pollution additives, vinyl fiber, and alumina cement also increased compressive strength and durability [15].…”

“…In PC, nanomaterials are used as a partial replacement of cementitious material [149,150]. The use of nanotechnology for the filtration of water in cementitious composites could add a new dimension to the existing literature [12].…”

“…However, due to the lack of superior strength and durability in conventional concrete pavement, material engineering has focused on its physical, structural and mechanical features development. Also, considering the concrete pavement's voids and porosity (Ramadhansyah et al, 2014), obtaining great strength through ordinary materials and their mixtures is almost impossible. Consequently, adding materials such as admixture and superplasticizer cement or aggregates replacements besides few waste materials and Nano-materials have been applied to increase the properties of concrete used in pavement (Huang et al, 2007).…”
