“…Prolactin receptors have been found in Leydig and Sertoli cells in male testes, and high serum PRL levels reduce spermatogenesis, sperm motility and quality by reducing the pulsatile release of FSH, LH and testosterone (Blomberg et al, ; Boisen et al, ; Zhu et al, ). In our study, serum PRL levels were significantly elevated in the infertile groups than in the fertile group.…”

“…Some studies have shown an association and positive correlation between serum 25-OH VD levels and sperm parameters, especially sperm motility (Blomberg et al, 2016;Yang et al, 2012), while other studies did not confirm this link (Ramlau-Hansen, Moeller, Bonde, Olsen, & Thulstrup, 2011;Zhu et al, 2016). In studies on rats, there is evidence that serum 25-OH VD deficiency slows down spermatogenesis and decreases the fertilisation capacity of sperm, due to degenerative changes in the testes, and that fertility returns with vitamin D replacement therapy (Boisen et al, 2017;Lerchbaum & Obermayer-Pietsch, 2012). In our study, in keeping with previous studies, a significant positive correlation was noted between serum 25-OH VD levels and sperm motility.…”

“…3,4 This interaction between vitamin D and reproduction is attributed to the presence of both Summary Context: The effects of Vitamin D on reproductive function in adults have gained interest. In addition to its classic effects on bone homoeostasis, many studies have supported that vitamin D receptors (VDRs) are present on various non-musculoskeletal organs and tissues.…”

“…2 Most recent evidence from human and animal studies also suggests that vitamin D has a potential role in the physiology of reproductive function in both genders. 3,4 This interaction between vitamin D and reproduction is attributed to the presence of both Summary Context: The effects of Vitamin D on reproductive function in adults have gained interest. Studies have demonstrated some associations.…”
