Post‐Synthetic Modification of Zr‐based Metal‐Organic Frameworks with Imidazole: Variable Optical Behavior and Sensing

Abstract: UiO‐66‐NH2‐IM, a fluorescent metal‐organic framework (MOF), was synthesized by post‐synthetic modification of UiO‐66‐NH2 with 2‐imidazole carboxaldehyde via a Schiff base reaction. It was examined using various characterization techniques (PXRD, FTIR, NMR, SEM, TGA, UV‐Vis DRS, and photoluminescence spectroscopy). The emissive feature of UiO‐66‐NH2‐IM was utilized to detect volatile organic compounds (VOCs), metal ions, and anions, such as acetone, Fe3+, and carbonate (CO32‐). Acetone turns off the high lumine… Show more

“…In contrast to the control approach, where the MOF is disseminated in the organic phase, the resulting TFN membrane displays a homogenous MOF coating and high permeability and selectivity, which prevent potential membrane flaws. 179,180 Similarly, Zhu et al 181 employed a vacuum filtering technique to place a UiO-66-NH 2 dispersion in an aqueous solution before continuing with the standard IP process with an organic solution. This method prevents any loss of the loaded MOFs and enables regulated loading of UiO-66-NH 2 .…”

“…Their unique properties viz. high specific surface area, high porosity, tunable functional sites, etc., supports the MOFs to accomplish a significant role in photocatalysis [19–22] . Despite their enthralling features, however, pristine MOFs have some drawbacks regarding their instability in acidic/basic environments, which may lead to the destruction of the framework.…”
